A traditional New England catboat carries the Stars and Stripes across the waters off Martha’s Vineyard. Its distinctive sail was inspired by an 1800s catboat that carried a similar design after the Civil War as a symbol of reunification. Martha’s Vineyard is an island in Massachusetts, located just south of Cape Cod.
