The island forgets its coastline first. Before the name, before the people, the edge goes. Maybe forgetting, done gently, is a kind of mercy.
The island is a glitch collage from my own pipeline. The figure is a 3D model rendered as stipple, regraded into the island's peach and plum.
I built the finished image into a real Game Boy Advance ROM (tile mode, 256 unique 8×8 tiles, 26.8 KB), corrupted its 8 KB tile bank with a pipe engine (90 copies of 96 bytes, seed 7, saved as a replayable recipe), ran it in an emulator and captured the 240×160 screen.
The dissolve is an 8×8 Bayer dither swept from the top left: where it passes, the pixel comes from the corrupted cartridge. Colours are snapped to the original's own palette, and the figure is masked so she's never touched. Scaling is nearest-neighbour, so each GBA pixel is a hard 30×30 block in the 3840×4800 file.
