What's even real anymore ?
With the rise of computational power, it's now easy to perfectly model physical phenomenons such as gravity, light propagation, fluid flows.
It's becoming harder everyday to differentiate simulation from reality.
In this piece, I reverse and deconstruct this process using reality to mimic a simulation.
- Several footages of a real ball are assembled into an impossible bouncing loop.
- The ball is golden and reflects its surrounding similar to platonic shapes used in 3D modeling.
- Objects are cut out from their environment and appear successively as instantiated virtual assets.
- In the background, the source code of a javascript library used to simulate physics in a webgl environment forces us to acknowledge the animation as a result of a computation.
- The sound of the ball hitting objects brings us back to reality.
The minimal setup of Simulation One highlights the only elements that produces a realistic simulation : the story that one wants to believe in.
