From its emerald green interior and Jurrasic rock formations, to palm-fringed shores and translucent waters, the Islands of Raja Ampat are truly a land of striking contrast and unparalleled natural beauty.
This pristine archipelago is located in the West Papua Province of Indonesia’s exotic Far East. Straddling the equator, its unique geographical position between both the Pacific and Indian Oceans is renowned for its biologically complex ecosystem, nutrient-rich waters and unmatched marine biodiversity.
Since its discovery in 1526 by Portuguese Navigator Jorge de Menezes, this remote wilderness remains, to this day, virtually untouched by human intervention and advancements of our modern society. Approximately 95% of the 1500 islands are uninhabited and widely distributed across an enormous 46,000 square kilometres. With very limited accessibility and abundance of vast ocean voids, the sense of isolation and solitude is profound. A world so tranquil - the last quiet place on earth.
ATMOSPHERE is artwork #001 and genesis 1/1 from ISLANDS.
A photographic series portraying the harmonious interplay between land and sea - from an aerial perspective.
A visual journey of organic shapes, abstract formations and contrasting hues from Earth’s most far-flung and beautiful places.
