Micropolis

Flying high over New York City at night is magical. It is the one time of day that you can see the movement of the city. Every activity of city life is on full display from above. Electric arteries filled with the movement of the cars below, flashing signs, people coursing through Times Square, and outlines of illuminated icons. It can be overwhelming to take it all in. The saying "dream so big the world seems small" comes to mind when I think of this image, and this is my interpretation of that. While NYC can be overwhelming both on the ground, and even in from the air, we can choose to either be overwhelmed, or harness that energy for our own usage. This piece came from my first ever high altitude night flight. The shooting conditions shooting at night are difficult enough, but the extra altitude brings to light a lot more issues that cameras at the time had with low-light/high shutter speed conditions. Needless to say, the environment was overwhelming to shoot in. This image is my representation of choosing to harness that energy and make it mine!
