I gathered everything I thought about you into a leather bag, ready to zip it shut and cast it into the sea. To weigh it down, I packed inside my troubles, the moments I blamed you, and the hours I dedicated to you. As I stood by the sea, stepping onto the rocks, the wind hitting my face pulled me back. Just as a flower regrets everything before its stem bends and touches the ground, the wind filled me with remorse for what I had done and what I was about to do. I leaped down from the rocks and began to run, knowing exactly where the sudden surge of strength in my legs was coming from.
Then I reached you—your arms and your soft chest. I slept there for hours to shed my exhaustion, wandering through deep dreams while you stroked my hair. In those spaces I roamed, I made love to different versions of you, danced with them, and wandered through forests. I fell in love with every single version of you, kissing each one goodbye as I settled them into soft seats at different stops. They all opened their arms to me, putting me to sleep only to entrust me to another version of themselves.
