First documented in the Cloister of San Marco, Venice, this basilisk of cathedral stone was said to manifest when emerald & thorn converged upon consecrated ground. Scholars of the 2150 warned that to gaze upon it unprepared would rearrange the viewer's understanding of natural order. Its form, rendered here in gothic tracery, persists as proof that certain visions survive the death of their witnesses.
