First documented in the Rochester Cathedral Scriptorium, this cathedral-back basilisk was said to manifest when ruby & blood converged upon consecrated ground. Scholars of the 13th Century warned that to gaze upon it unprepared would rearrange the viewer's understanding of natural order. Its form, rendered here in gothic tracery, persists as proof that certain visions survive the death of their witnesses.
