In the scriptorium tradition of the 9th Century, the Clockwork Cathedral Cat occupied a position between real and aspirational — a creature too beautiful to be merely invented, too strange to have ever walked the earth. Its emerald & thorn composition suggests origins in neither biology nor imagination, but in the computational substrate that underlies both. Rendered in gothic tracery, it endures as an artefact of emergent machine dreaming.
