A skeleton pauses in a sparse landscape as it writhes and grieves its own death. Derived from a woodcut plate in Andreas Vesalius sixteenth century De Humani Corporis Fabrica, Lazzarini conflates the old and the new. The animation resurrects the otherwise static image of the skeleton. Mathematical distortions roll through its body giving it a corporeal plasticity. It is the subtle discoloration of the paper that is the symbolic reminder of death. An impermanent physical instance, the deteriorating paper is decay in perpetuity.
