FREE CUT is an animated GIF created in 2010 and one of the first animations I ever published online. The work is part of the series FREE CUTS, a series of digital studies initially conceived as preliminary research for a sculpture project. The animation uses pixelated textures and flashing to emulate materiality on screen through minimal means: a block of matter appears to be cut through, revealing a radiating substance within. This piece marks a very important moment in my work, where I embraced digital animation as my main medium rather than as a transitional step towards other mediums. Shortly after creating this piece, I abandoned my initial sculpture project and decided to exhibit this animation as the actual sculpture. This artwork will be the only one sold from the series FREE CUTS. The first collector of this artwork will be gifted another work from this series. Artwork info: 692 x 660 pixels, 3 frames, 3 colors, 25 fps, 2010. The entire FREE CUTS series is viewable here: http://nicolassassoon.com/FREECUTS.html
