This Penta cover features Tom Friedman’s Global Currency, which is made up of superimposed images of all the world’s paper money he could find. Global Currency—although based on a direct, concrete idea—“almost becomes an ancient image,” Friedman says. A viewer may think they see things in it—faces, numbers, symbols—but in reality, those real images in the currencies have disappeared. “It has the quality of having some sort of strange history and mystery."
Penta is a website (InspiredByPenta.com) and a quarterly lifestyle magazine published by Barron's that covers how people spend their money with passion and purpose.
Through the prism of five buckets of coverage—Own, Invest, Give, Collect and Experience—Penta highlights how people make their money go further, leaving an impact on communities and making their mark on society. It also guides readers on how to invest their money to create a richer and more meaningful life.
