The Maneki-neko (招猫, lit. 'beckoning cat', circa 17th century)
is a common Japanese figurine which is often believed to bring good
luck to the owner. The orange color means luck and fortune to travelers (to the moon!), the left paw raised invites business related prosperity,
and holding a rocket signifies limitless success.
