Though memories have faded something keeps bringing me back,
My mother, my grandmother, my grandmother's mother,
Three generations away from the knowledge of my culture,
Three generations away from the knowledge of home,
So I dream of
Uneven floors that creak as I walk,
Windowpanes that let in neighbors as they talk.
I feel my longing in the emptiness of space-
I feel connected in the places my dreams create.
