Awaken

‘Awaken’ is a dreamscape mountain image that I've been waiting to share for quite some time and my genesis on Super Rare seems like the perfect moment. ‘Awaken’ comes from two feelings that resonated when it comes to this image. First was sunrise .. when the earth is beginning to greet the coming day, and the world is silent before waking. It is at these moments, when I am in complete solitude with my surroundings, that my mind is the clearest and I truly feel awake, in both mind, body and soul. The second, is a visual awakening from when my work shifted to creating imagery that I imagined in my own mind, but was also created by nature. This included exploring composite photography and incorporating my own visions into my art. 'Awaken' is a sunrise image taken at Taranaki Maunga (mountain), Aotearoa New Zealand. Sacred to local Maori and steeped in history, the mountain once lived in the central North Island, and competed with the other mountains to win beautiful Pīhanga Maunga. When Taranaki lost, he fled west, gouging out the Whanganui River. This is where he sits today. As the sun began to paint the sky incredible shades of pink and purple, I couldn't help but feel it was nature reminding us who the real artist is. I am forever thankful that I am able to capture these memories on camera, and allow time to stand still just for a moment.
