During the summer of 2020, I was rejected from SuperRare. Yet, as an artist, I was still creating. I began releasing my work on open platforms and building my reputation with my art before applying to SuperRare again later in the year. Since then, I have been working with SuperRare almost exclusively and they have helped me reach many goals in my career. “Refusé Pare Le Crypto Art” signifies the growth and opportunities that you can make possible when you believe in yourself and prove that you’re intrinsically valuable beyond the verdict of any admissions process. Much of what we experience in the industry is a result of business practices and logistics. It is limiting to measure one’s worth solely on others’ definition of one’s potential. This new work mirrors the ideals seen in the“Salon des Refusés”. Held in 1863, the exhibition featured a number of works rejected by the Paris Salon, the leading academic curation of art since the 17th century. The show exclusively displayed works that had been rejected by the Academy, leaving the submitted pieces bearing a stamp from the Paris Salon to signify perceived shortcomings. “Refusé Par Le Crypto Art” is a love letter to my journey on SuperRare, as well as the freedom that this significant exhibition created for the Western art world, a first step in the direction of freedom, one that is still relevant today but is by no means complete. 87cm x 146cm x 7cm
