Entropy in Protopia I

Entropy in Protopia is a body of work by Will Selviz leveraging emerging technologies to reclaim lived experiences and reimagine the meaning of "home" through the immigrant experience. Memories are portals to these places, especially when going back isn't an option. This concept sprung from a phone call with my grandparents. We reminisced on our trips to the Guacharo Cave -- a frequent destination growing up until we left Venezuela 12+ years ago. They were surprised I still remembered so many details, but how could I forget? The cave is named after the Guacharo, (oilbird) a nocturnal, fruit-eating bird that relies on sound to move through caves. Unlike bats, their shrieks can be picked up by humans, which is what you hear in this piece. Their fruit shells and excrement are essential for the cave’s ecosystem. This park alone is home to 300+ bird species, some of which are endangered. I can't tell you to visit Venezuela since it's been deemed unsafe for tourism, so this is how I choose to share those experiences.
