Ratto delle Sabine

After five long years of university studies in the field of computer science, I decided to take a break and visit Florence, one of Italy's most renowned cities of art. Armed with my dusty camera, despite the bad weather, I took a few photos. "Il Ratto delle Sabine" is a statue by Giambologna (1529-1603) that is part of the Grand Ducal decoration of the Loggia dei Lanzi in Piazza della Signoria. The work represents a young girl trying to free herself, lifted up by a man at whose feet stands a desperate old man. It depicts an episode from ancient Roman history: Romulus, king and founder of the city, had the Sabine women kidnapped so that the Romans would have someone to procreate with. Of all the works of art I have been able to admire, this is the one that impressed me the most. With this work, I wanted to try something new. Starting from the raw shot, I applied a series of corrections and filters to emphasise the dramatic meaning represented by the original work.
