Border Crossing
My exploration of digital art is a natural progression of my interdisciplinary art practice. I create intricate and autobiographical compositions by gathering visual ephemera from various archives and public resources. These images serve as active records of my lived experiences, addressing themes such as immigration, identity, and the dissolution of boundaries.
My works function as archaeological surveys, where new pieces incorporate and transform previous ones, revealing fresh perspectives within my overall body of work. While rooted in a shared foundation, the digital artworks exist independently in both material and concept. They engage with the essential characteristics of the medium, using techniques like flattening, layering, and stacking to emphasize the psychological space of borders, identities, and histories. Ultimately, I use my personal history as a starting point to explore race, representation, and the memories of marginalized cultures. By embracing the unique qualities of digital processing as an aesthetic approach, these artworks actively engage with the digital landscape as a medium and an emerging space for conceptual exploration.
