Las dos Marías. (second version)
The sisters Maruxa and Coralia Fandiño Ricart, known as “Las Dos Marías”, were iconic figures in Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Linked to anarchism, they lived through difficult times during the Civil War and Franco's repression. After the war, they fell into poverty and were stigmatized. To survive, they adopted an eccentric appearance and walked the streets daily, defying social norms. Despite adversity, their legacy endures, highlighting resilience in the face of marginalization. In 1994, a sculpture was erected in their honor in Alameda Park.
