This is a digital oil painting by Mercy Thokozane Minah, created in 2023 and exhibited during the London 1-54 Art fair, in BKhz's booth. The work forms part of an ongoing series by Minah, in which they convey the tenderness of intimacy between elderly queer people. In 'wholeness is no trifling matter' an elderly couple is seated in their shared bathroom after a bath, and one of them is applying Camphor ointment to their lover's aching knee. The premise of the piece is that wholeness, or loving and care is not a matter to be taken lightly. There is effort required in showing our loved ones that we care, even into old age.
