Every autumn, the shepherds of Tusheti descend from the high Caucasus. The mountain roads close soon after — snow seals the passes until spring. This rider was photographed during the cattle drive, one of the last great transhumances of the Caucasus — a journey unchanged for centuries. Dust. Backlight. A horse that knows the road.
