North Arm Great Salt Lakes
The intense red water → caused by salt-loving microbes (especially Dunaliella algae and halobacteria)
The glassy reflection → common on calm days out on the flats
The mountain range in the background → likely the Promontory Mountains area near the lake
The thin straight line across the horizon → that’s the railroad causeway that splits the lake.
The north side gets extremely salty
That environment boosts red-pigment organisms
Result = that surreal crimson water you’re seeing.
The color can vary from light pink → deep blood red!
