'Tanned for Likes' presents a couple on the beach, tanning up to the point of producing (surreal) damage to their skin, only for the sake of looking as good as what magazines thought them good looking means.
The smile on both of them suggests that their sense of self esteem is being artificially raised as they feel good about them with this tanned skin, despite that they are aware of the damage inflicted upon them and even the possible pain and repercussions.
There are many other similar situation in life where this is happening, for example the adolescents smoking cigarettes to seem cool despite knowing it's not good for their health. The ones who get drink until passing out due to peer pressure, despite knowing it's not good for them. No matter the trade, one should never compromise their health.
