/ For you.
//
//
/
/
What was it like,
/before the Earth lost it's ice?
/ Are those pictures you showed me the truth?
//
/ Were the bears really white,
/ and did the penguins sound quite
/ like the funny impression that you do?
//
/ Well now, if truth be told,
/ and it certainly should,
/ we've fucked up this planet,
/ for you.
//
/ Through inaction, complacency,
/ corruption, and greed,
/ we've thoroughly decimated it,
/ for you.
//
/ So I'm sorry dear daughter,
/ dear son, dear child of mine,
/ for the future you inherit is grim.
//
/ And there's blood on our hands,
/ because we kept calm and carried on,
/ rather than face the reality of this collective sin.
//
/ So, the Earth's not what it was,
/ and we'll let children die at sea,
/ or put them in cages and try to forget
/ that we'd rather murder and oppress those that object,
/ lest we open our eyes, own up, and see...
//
/ But, in short, yes, the bears were real.
/ And penguins sounded funny, it's true.
/ And I'm so sorry we couldn't,
/ with all the time and the promise,
/ have left some more life,
/ for you.
//
/ [amusing penguin noise]
