As a team, as an athlete, as a person we set goals and we visualize achieving those goals.
Famous sports psychiatrist and mentor, Ken Revizza, sat our Cubs team down at the beginning of the 2016 season and had us visualize winning the World Series. He pulled me aside individually and shared the story of “Becoming the Bull.” He wanted me to visualize myself being a big league player. We did go on to win the World Series that year, and it was also my first full year in the big leagues.
'Become The Bull'
A monk fails to complete enlightenment through the normal Zen methods (brain change).
The monk was told by his teacher to think about nothing but a bull, so day after day, the monk did just that. He thought about the bull. He visualized the bull, meditated on the bull.
Finally one day, the mentor came to the monk and said, “Come out here, I want to talk to you.”
“I can’t get out,” the monk said. “My horns won’t fit through the door.”
What you think, you become.
