This was photographed on the Lido in Venice just a few weeks before Gersande Spelsberg, my friend and transgender actress and activist, had sex reassignment surgery. Bodies are harder to edit than pixels are. It takes immense courage and endurance to transition and change the shape of skin, muscles, and tendons.
