Trying to capture life’s fleeting moments that also encapsulates the feeling of the times is an art in on itself. Sometimes you can go days, even weeks without finding a single moment that means anything, but sometimes there are moments that find you, and some moments that define you. For me, this capture, was both of those moments combined. It was my first week in NYC and I found myself caught up in a Black Lives Matter March for Eric Garner. As I marched, I found myself drawn to this masked man (centered), there was something about him, he had presence, he had direction, he was fighting for what he believed in, for the life blood of his generation. I followed him three blocks to get this shot. The flag, the mask, the kneel, all symbols he owned and all symbols he was fighting for. Following these young adults as they marched really put my faith back into humanity, we’ve strayed so far from the truth in recent years, focusing on domination instead of collaboration, money instead of people, but after capturing this moment, my faith in humanity slowly begun to restore. Sure this young generation was birthed under enormous pressure, but it has also produced some of the worlds strongest leaders. I believe this masked man is one of them.
