Mansa Musa was the ruler of the kingdom of Mali from 1312 C.E. to 1337 C.E. His kingdom was one of the richest in Africa and gold was his major source of wealth. He was among the richest individuals in the world. I created this piece to represent him as a sacred African mask and an ancestor.
