North of the arctic circle near the town of Ilulissat in the remote landscapes of Greenland lies an ocean full of icebergs. Tranquil as ever, untouched, and floating around until they melt into water. While I was on a sailing expedition to capture this fragile beauty, I soon noticed how almost nothing is under my control - not the weather, not the shape of the icebergs, not how they float, not their colours. You only have your camera under control. After a 12 hours of sailing on a day which was mostly overcast, we found a little leak in the clouds near the horizon and the entire bay turned orange. It looked beautiful, but I needed the contrast - I knew something was missing until I saw this little piece of ice floating around, more than half submerged. I took as many as 650 frames but none of them worked in my head, it was a split second decision to go compose the scene vertically. I got the alignment correct, the iceberg perfectly in the frame, and the red sails illuminated with the rays of sun, reflecting in the water - and the midnight sun, in all its glory.
