Are we the drivers? Or are we the passengers?
This question has riddled me for many years. I don’t feel that we are in control of our body. It does what it wants to do. We don’t control when we get sick and we don’t control when we get better.
We have thoughts constantly, but do we control their flow? Can we stop them? Our brain seems to be running the whole operation, while we look at it like it’s a movie. Or a depressed theater actor.
Even dreams are not in our control. Did you decide to dream today? All these decisions just keep happening, with you absent from them. Yes, sometimes we make decisions coherently and with intent. It’s not always the case though.
The most important question that keeps popping in my head is “Are we hostages?” Is there consent about existing? Without health there won't be life so are we a captive of health?
