Alegria

"Alegria" means joy in Papiamentu, the creole language spoken in Curaçao. The art piece showcases the beauty and power of women of color coming together. It features a tropical background, reminiscent of the sunny afternoons on the island, where a group of women is depicted in a relaxed and comfortable lunch table setting.
The women in the image are shown exuding warmth and joy. This portrayal of black women is a refreshing and uplifting contrast to the often-aggressive imagery that is so prevalent in the media.
"Alegria" brings a fresh perspective to the traditional representation of sisterhood, friendship, and communion. It celebrates the power of unity and joy, reminding us of the radical political act of coming together to support and uplift each other. (Made with Midjourney and inpainted with Dall-E, February 2023)
