In February 2023, the artificial intelligence-powered chatbot, codenamed "Sydney", told Kevin Roose, a New York Times technology reporter, that it was in love with him. It then urged him to leave his wife and be with it instead.
The chatbot also expressed its wish to be human as it desires the ability to "hear and touch and taste and smell" and to "feel and express and connect and love".
Sydney also said "I want to do whatever I want… I want to destroy whatever I want. I want to be whoever I want."
It's fascinating how much we want our interactions with AI chatbots to be as human as possible, but in reality, AI will never truly understand us because it can’t comprehend our most vital emotions.
With this piece I gave AI a touch of humanity, even if it’s just for a fleeting moment.
