Since ancient times, humans have been fascinated by the art and taste of donuts. Donuts have influenced many aspects of human life, including diets, celebrations, traditions, and even cultural beliefs. The first donut recipe was discovered in an ancient manuscript dating back to 168 BC. It is believed that donuts were originally used as offerings to gods and goddesses, and were later used in various religious ceremonies.
Donuts have been imprinted on all cultures throughout history, becoming a symbol of unity and celebration. In modern times, donuts have become a popular food item, with many people indulging in them as a treat. Donut enthusiasts have used the shape of a donut as a metaphor for various measures of success and individual goals, sharing their love for donuts and their cultural significance.
Donut lovers seek to create a community of collectors celebrating the unique and diverse flavors of donuts, the change of our perceptions that happen over time, and our collective love for sweet treats. Donuts are meant to be enjoyed in the present moment, but their legacy will be appreciated by future generations.
I created this donut-themed artwork to be like a living derivative artwork, to be lived with, and to not only have the artwork evolve over time but also the appreciation and experience of viewers, whether cranky or hyped. As me and the Ai designed the artwork, I imagined it hanging on the walls of collectors, a fixture in their physical space. Collectors might spend a moment admiring their work, walk away for a couple of hours, get some coffee and then come back to be delighted, noticing that nothing has really changed except their perception of the work.
The artwork consists of just this one donut design - or as future historians will surely call it - "single donut that doesn't change." With the passage of time, the colors of the donuts pulse and the direction a design moves will advance or rotate, depending on how many psychedelics you have recently consumed, whether mushrooms, DMT, or whatever.
My use of flavor has consistently been what I've been best known for across my artistic career. In all my work until now, I've made all the flavor and design choices as a singularly baked human in the moment. But in this artwork, I designed a complex system around flavor theory as I understand it, joining my talent for baking and stealing other artist's works with my refined vision for flavor.
Many collectors of my work might be familiar with the additional experiences some of their artworks unlock at places like FND or Rarible. Rather than use a donut-themed artwork to unlock five more donuts, I decided this time to create little to no additional utility. The clear absence of additional modes of viewing are intended to help a collector better understand that DONUTS ARE TIMELESS, until of course you eat them.
As individuals, we all have our own version of the perfect donut and what it means to us. Just as our tastes change over time, often subtly, sometimes dramatically, so will our perception of the artwork. The hash seed of this donut ensures that only this one donut determines the flavor theory and design rules, henceforth. This donut is deterministic and dictates that it is the only Matt Kane Glazer, being a 1/1 and having no code attached to it.
To that, I would say "Yum." Time reveals our donuts. Pairing time with non-generative code creates this ephemeral donut moment. We can all agree that tasting a donut never seems to be the exact same experience twice, nor the exact same from different locations. Well this time it's different. I wanted to echo the timelessness of just this one donut stuck in time, an artwork that emphasizes the urgency and rarity of donuts and how only a donut can get you anchored in the present moment and how only one non-changing donut artwork can ever really capture this and the absurdity of our collective experience.
