Harman's latest painting, "Corporate Synthetic," unearths the power dynamics inherent within the arena of corporate life, vividly encapsulating them within the veneer of a seemingly jovial transaction. The scene unfolds around a red lacquered table, on which rests a bone china tea set, setting the stage for a ritualistic display of power that is both mundane and profound in its pervasiveness.
The three corporate men, engaged in what seems to be an amusing discourse over financial matters, are depicted not as individuals but as manifestations of a larger societal structure, their identities reduced to mere conduits of economic operation. However, Harman breaks the continuity of this familiar representation through his innovative use of digital distortion.
The incorporation of digital paint and AI introduces an aspect of the uncanny within the visual narrative. The distortion of the faces, particularly the glitched smile, becomes symbolic of a rupture in the perceived reality. The synthetic nature of their distorted visage may be seen as a critique of the alienating effects of our increasing immersion into the digital realm and the machinery of capitalism.
