"The Manor", the latest painting from The 10th E State offers a poignant examination of the divide separating the corporate elite from the masses. Herein lies the sanctuary of a factory executive, a figure both cold and calculated, orchestrating the operations of the nefarious factory from high above the 10th Estate. His face, twisted and deformed, may well mirror the inner corruption of his soul, shaped by his unyielding engagement in the exercise of control.
This executive, seated in a grand chair, surveys the vast grounds that are a stark contrast to The 10th E State. Amidst the grandeur of his manor, hybrid hyenas – the allegorical scavengers of the corporate sphere – roam unchecked, seemingly indifferent to the master's gaze. These creatures might stand in for the subjugated workforce or perhaps the competition, all bound within the same industrial entanglements as the executive himself. At the epicenter of this domain rests a large rug, emblazoned with the factory's emblem – a seal of the far-reaching and foundational role the corporation plays in this environment.
Outside, the winter's scene imparts an icy sheen throughout the room, deepening the atmosphere of seclusion and stark coldness. This environmental chill echoes the executive's own emotional austerity, further emphasizing his segregation from the outer realm. His identity, obscured by his malformed features, suggests a broader archetype: an emblematic executive whose humanity has been eroded by the machinery of commerce and power.
Harman challenges the viewer to reflect on the existential price of industrial ambition and the societal edifices that endorse such hierarchical dynamics. The emblem on the carpet serves not merely as a corporate sigil but as a symbolic anchor, tethering all elements of the painting to the omnipresent influence of the corporation. The piece stands as a contemplative narrative on the character of authority, the isolation of the individual, and the omnipotent presence symbolized by the emblem underfoot – a silent witness to the interplay of power within the manor's walls.
