It was said that when the spice storms raged hardest—when the sky turned the color of blood-orange and sand particles screamed like spirits—Mercuria stood at the heart of the maelstrom untouched. Fragments of the storm clung to her like pieces of a broken world: butterflies crystallized mid-flight, petals frozen in eternal bloom, memories harvested from the collective subconscious of Arrakis.
To look upon her was to witness every path a life could have taken.
One day, a young Fremen girl named Najah approached the Vault. She had lost her family to a rogue sandworm, and with them her place in the sietch. Guided only by instinct and sorrow, she sought Mercuria not for power, but for understanding.
Inside the Vault, Najah found landscapes painted across the walls—cities that had never existed, deserts turned into oceans, people laughing in lives they never lived. And floating among them all was Mercuria, her golden skin flickering with the shimmer of visions.
Najah spoke softly:
“Are you a prophet?”
The golden woman tilted her head. Her voice, when it came, sounded like wind passing over dunes.
“I am what the spice remembers. What the spice dreams. I am every choice pressed into the sands of Arrakis.”
Najah’s tears glittered like melted gold.
“Can you show me a future where my family lives?”
Mercuria reached out, her fingers half-human, half-celestial mosaic.
“I can show you futures where they lived…and futures where they never existed.”
But she pointed to Najah’s heart.
“The only path that matters is the one you choose from this moment on.”
