Title: August 8th - 01:00 Medium: Super-8 film Aspect Ratio: 4:3 Resolution: 2880 x 2160 File Type: H.264 Codec / MP4. Comments: It was way past midnight under the bridge in the middle of Chi-town. Ethan, Roberto, and I were waiting for an old classmate from SVA named, Ivan, who I spent many, many dazed out college nights smoking weed, making art, and play 2K12 at his penthouse sweet in Hells Kitchen with his older brother Xavier over the years after class let out. It has been 10 years or so since I last seen him at school before he moved back home to Chicago from New York. One of the last times we met was at his house on his birthday when I was shooting Every Day is a Gift, AKA the birthday project. I shot a polaroid of him in his birthday suit with his favorite cut out of Marilyn Monroe. I guess we stopped hanging out as much in senior year because I was neck deep in this obsessive mission to find people on their birthdays that I did not have time to hang around anymore since I spent my days and nights seeking out people celebrating their special day. He still had the same big contagious smile I remembered dearly. I noticed his work ethic had matured and took his job very, very seriously. I was proud to see him committed to his new job at the design firm. At school it was so easy for us to get distracted by the drugs, sex, and rock and roll lifestyle we were role playing out until graduation. I guess those really are the golden years to fuck around and find out! Ivan brought his Jedi knight green light saber for the video shoot. He LOVED Start Wars so it was fitting he carried the saber for this moment. It was the perfect prop to play with in the quiet empty streets, under the blinking tungsten lights, with the above ground trains occasionally buzzing by. I shot this night film while Ivan started twirling the light saber as if he was ready to go in to battle deflecting lasers by units of storm troopers, preparing for a heavy boss fight with the red-sabered Sith Lords.
