It was risky but I thought I could go out of the airport to meet Futuradora and her daughter Novæ at this tennis court to make the video of the day and reunite with my friend from earlier in the project and honor her family this way. When I stepped out of the airport I met a kind taxi driver who promised to take me where I had to go and more. For those 6 hours we drove in traffic, there and back, to meet the mom and daughter. The driver sat in the car and watched my luggage while I was waiting for Novæ to finish her Tennis lessons. So Futuradora and I were talking and reminiscing about our shoot we did early on and how we came full circle. The uncanny cycles of life that keep us coming back to where we went to and from, and when we do return something changed, something is different, yet we feel the same. I did not know Futuradora was a mom until she had told me the day I landed so it was a surprise to see that side of her and to be able to gift her a vision of motherhood, from when we last met in the depths of the red light district reading slam poetry to the familial boundaries of a community tennis court in their backyard. Novæ finally joined us after her lesson and showed me her swing that knocked us out of the park! We shot this portrait then It was time to go as they had more errands to run. Timing is everything and we made it their at the perfect in between state. Before heading back to the airport, the taxi driver and I stopped off to the local head shop to roll up a couple Amnesia haze and Afghani hash joints, where I wandered into the nearest park for some privacy, which opened me up to nature but the haze really clouded my brain, then we grabbed a juice and bolted back to the airport without skipping a beat. It was pure synchronization on how we managed our precious time. Once I got to the airport I was way too stoned you can tell that the staff knew by the looks and smells of me and they were laughing at and making fun of me during the security transit. Kind of like how you would fuck with a friend when you are coming up on psychedelics "I'm freaking out man..." They were being playful and I was being paranoid, what else is new? The taxi driver did say my demeanour had changed from before to after smoking. I have to admit I did smoke 2 fat hash joints and it had me silenced, slow, and stunned for the flight to the next city. I learned my lesson, again. And did not pick up smoking for the rest of the time in Europe. To be clear minded and focused. To let the art lead the way and guide my direction. When you think you need something and it backfires, to only teach you that you were better off without it. What is that curiosity, or perhaps old pattern that keeps you thinking it is a good idea until you try it and then you wish you didn't? For me that is what smoking has turned into. When do you realize you outgrow something you once loved, and thought you identified with? Does that change happen suddenly, or over a long period of time. How do you know when something stops serving you and becomes a poison to your growth? Or is life like a tennis match where you have to balance the ball between the net as you and a friend pass the ball to each other. Where no one wins, and the fun of it is just playing the game and hitting the ball over the net until you strike out. Balance, mediation, centeredness. Striving for that perfect harmony, practice a better serve.
