Comments: The Sadu was showing us his magic tricks with a string and a brass hoop in the middle of the ghat drawing an audience then busted out a box of Rudrakshas. He handed each of us a different Mukhi with different faces. He gave me the double, which looked like the shape of a walnut but it was a sacred prayer ornamental bead meant for meditation. After his performance, He walked us to the saints home and he welcomed us in to the doorless temple. It was an empty space crawling with fuzzy centipedes and swarms of ants covered on the tiles under a large metal caged room. Inside was a statue with a million eyes in the shape of a ganesha. It was terrifying yet a holy idol at the same time. He had us sit in the cage and meditate with the sculpture. He sat in silence and watched. The guys closed their eyes and started to hum. It was hard for me to calm and meditate because it felt like at any moment he would shut the gate on us and lock us in. This paranoia flared up. Red flags and bells whistling. I could not meditate or sit still. Bugs crawling up my arm and around us. It felt a bit like trying to meditate in hell. My third and two eyes open and could not take anymore so excused myself out. I waited outside till the guys were done. How to trust the universe and keep a calm mind while in the dangers of the unknown in a strange place? The men lead us on to the ghats and the saint was preparing his home for his next students. Eli had a place in mind that we go enjoy a meal thinking of our families for thanksgiving since we were together in India as brothers, as family.
