Comments: Once we made it to Kansas City we stretched a ring around the urban area . Living in a brick home slap dab in the middle of the boarder of Kansas and Missouri. A buddy of mine named, Kurt, introduced me to a woman who's family was royalty around these parts. Her name is Robin. She insisted on picking me up and showing me around her city as if she were the mayor. She was proud of her town, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Ethan stayed home and I went solo. Robin really wanted me to see this painting at River Club. It was a high society country club and her family were big patrons there. It was completely empty and the hostess did not want us to come inside. She used her family's name and won our way inside for just a moment to admire the painting. I think it was of a horse.... or a landscape of the river with a steamboat. I can't quite call what that painting was over the fireplace mantle, but I do remember how odd it felt to stand there while the hostess was watching us look at the painting. I thought we were going to do the shoot with her favorite painting but the vibes were not right and I suggested we leave. We walked outside and I saw the Lewis and Clark statue with Sacagawea right across the street in a small park. "Today on the bluff at the western edge of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, you’ll find Case Park where this statue stands to honor the Corps’ visit in mid-September 1806. Created by sculpture Eugene Daub, “Corps of Discovery” features the two Captains, York, Sacagawea holding Jean Baptiste, and Seaman. Created of bronze and granite, it stands 21 feet tall and about 18 feet wide. It was dedicated in April 2000." I thought, this was it. This is where I should make Robin's portrait. Outside in the public space. Understanding local folklore. She walked up to Sacagawea and held her hand. Robin had never been this close to the statue before. he said this small gesture transformed her. She started to cry... From woman to woman, with empathy and compassion. A pain that no peoples should endure. You can feel the sacred tear drops that became the early morning dew.
