Robert S Duncanson, the son of freed slaves, was a black artist working in the free state of Ohio mere miles away from enslaved people across the border in Kentucky. His talent knew no color, no bounds, no class, or no division, and that fact alone stood as a beacon of hope for abolitionists. This modified work of his aims to represent that hope.
