Cathedral

[34.827715486477715, -111.80392807963315] "This is Not a Photo" Cathedral is the sophomore piece of the new series by digital artist Scobel. Like all images in this series, Cathedral is a 3D rendered virtual landscape photo created with real world scientific data. The scene is initially built using a combination of radar from the 2013 Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, satellite images from March 2022, LiDAR scans from a fixed wing airplane taken during the 2016 Oak Creek Flood Control Study, and both photogrammetry and texture scans taken on-location by the artist on two site visits in March of 2022 and February 2023. This real world data is used to create a complete 2KM by 2KM 3D reconstruction of the scene allowing the artist to place a virtual camera (with real world focal length, aperture, shutter speed, and ISO) and then compose and capture this iconic landscape image. This is the second in a series of "virtual landscapes" that will be created using real data from iconic locations around the world under this smart contract. Final render is 8823x5146 (60.1 mp)
