This morning began by pulling myself out of bed well before the sun rose at about 4:30 AM. My knee was stiff and swollen from tearing my meniscus while hiking the day before. Injured knee and all, I knew the adventure had to resume. Hobbling to my car, I decided to drive out to some mudflats I had found earlier in the week in Death Valley National Park. Many people assume Death Valley is an arid wasteland. However, it's actually a beautiful tapestry with pastel colors and intricate designs. When I finally got to the flats I walked around for two hours to find some mud tiles that I really liked. Photographing mud may not seem like fun, but it actually helps me relate to my life experiences. You see, past experiences and memories can be large or small. While they may seem disjointed, they all fit together in a fractured kind of way to reveal who you have become.
