It was freezing, launching in the darkness and traversing the coastline for twenty-five minutes. By the time I arrived, my hands were all seized up, desperate for warmth. Nothing about the morning was comfortable. Then the sun broke the horizon. The whole ocean lit up, glowing with molten intensity, yet no heat was reaching you.
Somehow as the first sets rolled through, the cold melted away. Maybe adrenaline, maybe having to focus on the ocean behaving like a furnace in front of me, the discomfort was a distant memory.
