I was a little unprepared this morning, mentally more so, running on a few hours sleep and a fair bit dehydrated from waking up and getting straight onto the jetski at 4am to be here for this moment.
But I was there. The sun was just rising over the horizon, the wind was light and the swell at a size where I could hopefully swim and view a perspective at water level, in line with the beautiful Huzzas barrel without getting caught out... Hopefully...
As soon as I got in, shooting directly into the sun, which meant being blinded by the reflection, needing to shoot on instinct and experience. but I very quickly experienced one of the most dangerous undercurrent ive ever swam against regardless of the smaller summer swell size. After this wave passed through it felt like the ocean grabbed a hold of my legs and dragged me backwards despite all my best efforts to swim against it.
All of a sudden I was in the middle of an extremely shallow barnacle encrusted granite slab. The next wave skittled me across, off and into the deep water chop zone infront of the granite slab. You would have laughed at the little 530am exhausted after 45 minutes of struggling tantrum out in the middle of the ocean. Creating these artworks is far from perfect or easy, my commitment and love of challenging myself alongside building the Huzzas Collection will make me return to try again, Forever grateful for the opportunity to do so.
