Each different Huzzas location has unique properties that set them apart from each other. As no two waves in the ocean are the same, I am growing to believe the bathymetry of the reef structures are also unique to their own.
Many of these locations are located amongst a granite landscape, this densely packed rock seems to withhold the forces of the ocean, providing an open air studio for the sculptural performances I witness.
As the Southern ocean sends a wave towards the reef the bathymetry creates a phenomenon called draw back, where the wave actually feels the reef and causes the wave to stand up, compress its force and get into a position to form what we term a barrel.
This moment is a great example of this draw bac k and standin up. What is interesting to me is the little scoop thats formed here. This wave in particular does this fairly uniquely and it would be interesting to know what element of formation of the reef is causing this mouth shaped scoop.
This body of work has evolved far past anything I ever dreamed, and for the places have discovered in the last year that we have yet to see at their ultimate form it is not even close to where it will be. Thank you for all of the support. The gratitude in my heart leaves me speechless but I take the responsibility to work to improve myself and my art in the hope of making you proud, seriously.
