Ambients by FEELS
Ambients was made between 2021 and 2026 using a homemade instrument built by FEELS. Each piece was created without the ability to save or return — made in the moment, and then gone.
Ambients is the first body of work by FEELS, created between 2021 and 2026. The artist built the instrument used to make the work, deliberately without the ability to save or undo. Each piece was realized in a single continuous session.
The works in Ambients were created using custom software developed by the artist over several years. Rather than relying on existing creative tools, the artist built the digital equivalent of a brush before creating the paintings themselves. The software was intentionally designed without a “save” function, preventing works from being revisited or resumed as one would with conventional digital editing software. This constraint required every session to unfold improvisationally, responding only to what existed in the moment.
Because the system was experimental, crashes were frequent, often erasing hours or days of progress. Many works were restarted countless times, with some evolving across months and, in certain cases, years of repeated attempts to realize the same underlying vision. Between sessions, the artist documented reflections and emotional responses in writing, using these notes as a form of continuity in place of digital save states.
The Ambients series represents five years of this process, built upon many more years of prior experimentation and technical development. The artist’s practice is driven by an enduring fascination with flow, embracing uncertainty and impermanence as essential creative conditions. Through this deeply hands-on methodology, the series demonstrates both a strong internal cohesion and a continual evolution of visual language, with each work contributing to an ongoing progression of energy and form.
The SuperRare release marks the opening chapter of Ambients, a long term series that will unfold gradually over time. It consists of five unique 1/1 works, auctioned one per week over five weeks, beginning with Materia. Rather than presenting the series in its entirety, these works introduce its first phase, with additional works to be revealed over time as the practice continues and the series evolves organically.
