Hawdon Shelter in Arthur's Pass, New Zealand, is not just a photography spot for me; it's my escape. Tucked away in nature, it's where I disconnect from everyday life, this peaceful environment always resets me, and I come back feeling refreshed.
Having visited countless times, it's one of my favourite locations. Protected from the typical mountain winds by the surrounding native beech forest, it's a perfect spot for astrophotography and setting up camp for the night.

In a slight change from my usual methods, I used an 85mm lens, capturing over 60 frames that I stitched together and combined. This approach enhanced the details of the night sky. The time and effort invested in capturing and processing were certainly justified, especially when the Aurora Australis unexpectedly appeared in my panorama. If you zoom in you can spot various satellite trails, highlighting the activity in our night sky.
My H.Alpha astro-modified camera was important for capturing the vivid colours of nebulae within the Milky Way, enriching the red and magenta hues.
The panorama captures different views: the left shows the southern sky, the centre showcases the west, and the right side displays the north. A huge field of view.
