Usque ad Mortem

"Usque ad Mortem" (latin for "until death”, here "until death do us part") depicts the moment two lovers are forever separated by death. Struck with grief and panic, they are fighting the angel of death while at the same time submitting to their fate. In a desperate attempt of protecting her lover – who is, in his last moments, still reaching for her – the female figure is pushing away the angel, the emotional expression of which is concealed by an ornated mask.
